HARAMBEEISM AND THE NYAYO PHILOSOPHY
Harambeeism was initiated by kenya’s founding farther mzee jomo Kenyatta while nyayoism was championed by his successor Daniel moi. Harambeeism is gotten from the word harambee which means pu;lling together or uniting in work. Nyayoism based on the word nyayo (meaning footsteps) was the name given to harambeeism after Kenyatta’s death in 1978 to show its continuity. It is a philosophy of peace, love and unity. Harambeeism is a very significant philosophy in Kenya. In fact, the Kenyan motto found on the court of arms is harambee. More over, the word harambee was adopted to mean a fundraising event in Kenya. Both harambeeism and nyayoism were philosophies that encouraged people to join hands in common effort. It should be noted that harambeeism is also practiced in other countries but under different names. They include: ‘imee’ of turkey, ‘bayanihan’ of phillipines, ‘gotong-royong’ of Indonesia and Malaysia and ‘naffir’ of sudan.

AIMS OF EDUCATION IN NYAYOISM AND HARAMBEE PHILOSOPHY
 • Education to help eradicate disease, poverty7 and ignorance in Kenya
 • Education to nurture learners both mentally and physically
 • Education to produce self- reliant citizens
 • Education to promote nationalhood and partriotism

METHODS OF EDUCATION IN NYAYO AND HARAMBEE PHILOSOPHY
 • Free milk was offered to learners in the nyato era
 • Practical skills such as those in farming were incorporated in the school system
 • The school was to be open to the community. Through this, parents would contribute in infrastructural development

CRITIQUE OF NYAYOISM AND HARAMBEEISM
 • The word harambee from which we get harambeeism has been dismissed by clerics as being idolaterous. Kenyatta, it is said, heard the word from Indian labourers who were constructing the Kenyan railway line. They would shout “har ambee” in praise of the Indian godess Ambe Mata when carrying heavy metal. Kenyatta presumed it as a call to pull together. However those supporting harambeeism explain that a word should not be defined by its source but by its contextual meaning. • Harambee fundraisers were used by politicians to popularize themselves by contributing huge amounts of money.
 • The nyayo era was marred by dictatorship and emergence of massive ethnic divisions in Kenya.

AFRICAN SOCIALISM
Socialism is a philosophy that has been adopted by many states in differrenyt continents but is more prevalent in Africa and asia. Some of the countries that have practiced socialism include; ir5aq, Libya, cuba, stria, Algeria, Ghana and sri lanka. However unlike capitalism, socialism is more temporary and does not stay for long as seen in various countries like tanzania, Iraq and Libya where the system has been loosing grip by the day.
